Picking a portable headphone amp

Here’s a quick list, and I’ll expand this article later to detail the actual selection process. Of course, I don’t expect I’ll be able to match the audiophiles on head-fi.org, but at least detail my layman’s selection process.

To investigate:

  • Hippo cri cri (and the cri cri plus [think the plus just features a DAC, which I don’t have use for].
  • Fiio E6
  • Firestone Audio Fireye Mini
  • GoVibe Mini Box
  • DigiZoid ZO2: a bass heavy amp. generally considered overpriced for what is brings to the table, but people seems to love the sound it produces.

      Hey John,

I’m not sure if you’re a real person, or just a crafty spammer. but you haven’t spammed yet, so I bought the Digizoid ZO2 and love it. I never got a chance to test the other amps, so I unfortunately, can’t speak to those.

Digizoid is about to put out the ZO3, so just hang tight for a bit and wait for it to come out before purchasing. No ETA right now, me thinks; but check their site.

Hi there I am a real person. I google the amplifier you mentioned above and confused about the personal Subwoofer. Does it mean a lot of bass

Yes, it shapes the bass quite a bit. It does sound much better. I ended up buying Future Sonic MG7 Pros and pairing them with this. Like I said, if you own nothing, I would wait for the ZO3 to come out before buying.
