Access to the Fortinet FTP

2015-01-28:

(that’s ISO 8601 datetime to avoid the rest-of-world v. US arguments):

It appears that Fortinet has changed their FTP username and/or password. Would a kind fella/dame please post the new creds in a comment after placing a call to Fortinet support?

Gergeorgedgegorge states in the comments: “I guess there’s no more FTP access….. at least it isn’t available at support page, only authenticated HTTP.”

Fortinet FTP is accessible at:

ftp://pftpintl:sgn89IOngs@support.fortinet.com/FortiGate

Thank you, Stranger.

If you can’t open a support ticket, try the support forums. Feel free to post back here if you find creds. I’ve moved onto a new employer that doesn’t use Fortigate.

No news on the FTP password front ?

    • June 5, 2015 at 11:06 am

There likely won’t be. As others have reported, Fortinet shifted to having everything accessible via a their web UI support site logon.

Does anyone have old firmware for a FortiGate 60? Version 3.0 MR7 is the last release for this model.

    • James
      June 22, 2015 at 2:19 am

Nevermind, I was able to find the file (after lots of searching) http://www.4shared.com/postDownload/MDvA0fcz/FGT_60-v300-build0753-FORTINET.html

      • June 22, 2015 at 9:27 am

Did you verify the checksum of this image? Always verify the checksum of the image :D

    • James
      June 22, 2015 at 8:35 pm

I didn’t verify the checksum, as the only references that I could find to it were on Fortinet’s support site. Despite registering my unit with them, firmware and the checksums are not available for EoL products. This does not encourage me to purchase a new Fortinet product.
I have loaded the firmware and it is working well. If anyone has the checksum for a valid Fortigate-60 3.00-b0753(MR7 Patch 9) file, please let me know.
      Thanks mbrownnyc for the site.

A workaround is to activate one (1) trial license (AV, fortisandbox cloud,…). You will then have access to the firmware images for one month !!!

      July 7, 2015 at 9:53 am

Hey cool, you are right, it works… so I could check the 5.2.3 firmware did match the one I found on a chinese site….

      • Steve
        October 5, 2015 at 1:31 pm

Could you explain how to start a trial license (looked on the site cant find it) or could you provide the site you got the 5.2.3 firmware from and if it matched the Fortinet version?

        Not sure. Sorry.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately, I think they must be breaking many IP laws by posting the firmware, as well as other copyrighted software. It’s not an ethical reason (I don’t really care), but a legal one for their liability. I hope others have the sleuthing skills you have and can locate this useful cache!

      • July 21, 2015 at 8:26 am

Also worth noting… since I just approved and then unapproved that last post… anyone who subscribed to this comment section would have seen the firmware store. :D

    Hello again mbrownnyc,
I am trying to access a Fortigate 80C that seems to have the console output disabled (doesn’t even show booting information). I can see the login prompt via http://. Do you know how to factory reset this device without console or GUI access? If not (I have looked around for some time but not found any notes on how to do so), do you have a default system.conf file that I could load via USB?
I was able to update the firmware via USB image.out, so I think that loading new configuration in this way should work…

    • September 8, 2015 at 2:30 pm

I have no idea. It might be a physical issue with the port. I’m not sure if there a way to totally disable all output to the console jack: http://docs-legacy.fortinet.com/fgt/handbook/cli_html/index.html#page/FortiOS%205.0%20CLI/config_system.24.015.html

    • James
      September 8, 2015 at 7:22 pm

I found a way to gain access to the 80C. The console output seemed to be disabled, but I was able to modify a configuration file from another Fortigate Unit, then named it fgt_system.conf.
I formatted a USB stick with the FAT file system and copied the fgt_system.conf file to it. I then plugged the USB into the router and started up the device. Fortunately, the setting to load configuration from USB was still activated on this unit and the console started displaying output. I was then able to reset the password with the maintainer user and reset the unit to factory defaults.

Anyone got an updated password? Came over an old unit today for testing but want to upgrade it from 4.0.

  34. October 31, 2015 at 4:43 pm

For Legacy Devices Heres a list http://emea.fortinet.net/fortinet/hdpt/index.php I cant find 60D Firmware. I wil never buy fortinet again…

    • November 9, 2015 at 12:44 pm

Thanks for this, but to note these are NOT the firmware but a diagnostic/rebuild for the filesystem.

  35. Mad Reef
    November 7, 2015 at 1:07 pm

I received an only 80CM with v3.00-b5380(MR7). Subscription lapsed 5 years ago in December 2010. Certainly not worth the cost for subscription as a newer faster unit would be cheaper.

Anyone have firmware files to do an unsupported upgrade? If I break it, it doesn’t really matter.

    • James
      November 9, 2015 at 5:21 pm

Hey Mad Reef, I don’t know whether the 80CM firmware differs from the 80C, but you can find some 80C firmware on the 4shared service. http://search.4shared.com/q/CCAD/1/fortinet%20out%2080c

      • November 11, 2015 at 10:17 am

Remember to check file hashes when downloading from an unreliable source! Sort of makes no sense to install untrusted firmware on a firewall, right?

  36. Not so happy
    December 1, 2015 at 7:56 am

This will make secondhand shopping of devices troublesome. Seems there is already quite a many devices in Ebay, which nobody wants. Fortinet could at least give out free older version of firmwares, like now v400 serie.

any one tested the firmwares shared by james are working?

    • Noiime
      January 25, 2016 at 4:51 pm

Yes, I’ve tried it on an old 80c unit and it told me that “This operation will downgrade the current firmware version. Are you sure you want to continue?”

On this router, firmware v4.0,build0513,120130 (MR3 Patch 5) is currently installed and I’ve tried to install FGT_80C-v5-build0292-FORTINET which I thought was newer than what I had.

Since I don’t have the file for the V4.0 firmware, I didn’t want to risk downgrading it.
Anybody else tried to install those files?

  38. Mr.Live
    January 26, 2016 at 1:46 pm

    The SHA1 hash for FGT_80C-v5-build0292-FORTINET is 3F199C0A9C45F2274A136321618D65CC6BE00613

    • Noiime
      January 26, 2016 at 4:32 pm

      @Mr.Live,
this SHA1 hash is it coming from a fortinet image or you just calculated the SHA1 from James files?

If your information is coming from fortinet, it means that James images are good because it has the same SHA1 as yours.

      • Mr.Live
        February 1, 2016 at 6:10 pm

My SHA1 hash is from the image downloaded from Fortinet. I did it so you can check that the image you can get is real.

    • February 3, 2016 at 8:23 am

Thank you for posting this! I think it’s great for people scouring the internet in search of firmware.

Is it possible for you to provide a list of hashes for all images? I know that’s asking much, but I do think that it would be extremely valuable given that Fortinet doesn’t provide this info, or the old firmware for free for EOL firewalls. *ehchem*wink*wink*nudge*nudge*smack*smack*
